The FreeBMD Project aims to provide free Internet access to Civil Registration (St. Catherine's House) indexes for England and Wales. The index is compiled progressively by volunteers, but is not verified by the Public Record Office. It is indexed for the period 1837-1997 but the whole period has not been transcribed yet.
FreeREG is a companion project to FreeBMD (a database of the GRO birth, marriage and death indexes from 1837) and FreeCEN (a database of census information). It aims to provide free Internet searches of baptism, marriage, and burial records, that have been transcribed from parish and non-conformist registers of the U.K. FreeREG is a work in progress and volunteers are transcribing the registers, so not all counties and places or years are complete.
